Tremblant - Switzerland 90 minutes from Montreal

Quebec > Laurentians > Tremblant - Switzerland 90 minutes from Montréal

You're on one of the oldest platforms in Canada. It is said that the Algonquins who lived in this region called the highest mountain "Manitonga Soutana," the mountain of the spirits. If somone had the misfortune to disobey the laws of nature, the spirits would become angry and make the mountain tremble!

The entrance to Tremblant is imposing, with the Kandahar and Residence Inn standing like twin sentinels at the gate to the pedestrian village and hotel complex. You'll find the most recent addition to the hotel stock, the Westin Resort Tremblant, which proudly displays 5 stars and boasts one of the province's best Japanese restaurants.

Take Main Street: you'll find the old village of Tremblant with its quaint houses, trellised windows and geranium boxes, like little doll houses that retain a festive atmosphere year-round, home to lively restaurants, cafés, clubs and bars. They're small, warm and inviting. Step through the door of the Plus MInus Café to savor local dishes with exotic flavors in a welcoming atmosphere where the owner's friendliness will put you in a festive mood.

Continue your ascent to the "upper" village, a picture-postcard scene with shops and restaurants spread out along the side of the mountain to Place St. Bernard. Everywhere there are stores, from the general store to the pastry shop, stores selling seasonal clothing, and gift shops to delight you. Halfway along, you can continue ahead or take the fork onto the Rue des Arts to discover galleries, craft shops, Native art stores and bookshops. Every business is charming, and above them are condos where you can live (or rent for a while) under the colored roofs. The architecture is a blend of old Quebec and the country style of the 1930s, with the European flavor of French, Swiss and Austrian winter resorts.

Place St. Bernard, near the lifts that take you up to Quebec's most stunning panoramas and provide you with access to 77 ski runs, is the gathering place if you want to set off on an adventure or take part in activities. It's also outdoor patios, ski shops and delightful small restaurants. A little higher, passing under the vault, you arrive at Château Tremblant, a prestigious address in a legendary setting.

Activities

77 ski runs on Mont Tremblant

Whether you're taking the run on the north face for an exciting descent from the summit, the Simon Cooper from the Flying Mile lift halfway up the mountain for a "blade" zone, the legendary Expo run or its sister "Cossack" run for mogul skiing...

Whether you choose the 6 km of slow runs for beginners...

Or whether you prefer one of the 8 groomed runs such as the crescent-shaped Scorpio for snow-boarding, coming with friends to enjoy the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, taking part in snow blading or tube slides to the rhythm of Mont Tremblant's music, this is a world-class mountain of fun.

Golf - Le Géant for beginners or pros

An 18-hole golf course that spreads gently over the base of the green mountain, designed by architect Thomas McBroom. At each turn are challenges like natural rocky escarpments, 52 white silica sand traps, the shores of a lake, etc. Named second-best new course in Canada by Golf Digest and the third most beautiful new course in Canada by Score magazine, Le Géant is one of the ten best courses in Canada according to Golf Ranking magazine.

Mountain cycling and hiking in the Ecozone at an altitude of 3000 feet

First head up Mont Tremblant, either on the hiking trails or the chairlifts. When visitors arrive at the top, they're taken to Grand Manitou for a short presentation highlighting the various ecosystems of the mountain, including the animals that live there and the types of forest encountered. More than 30 km of family and intermediate trails take you to breathtaking look-out points where the panoramic beauty of the Laurentians opens up at your feet. Nowhere else will you get such a spectacular view of this majestic region in all its vast beauty, a park born in the last century on the heels of Yellowstone. The Merrell hiking centre, located at the summit, also offers guides, equipment and hiking accessories. There are also 20 mountain-biking trails for cycling enthusiasts.
