Bangkok, the city of angels

Few cities in the world fire the imagination like Bangkok. Ornate palaces host royal processions; buddhist temples witness monks chanting ancient sutras; serpentine canals lead to a maze of water markets; markets that never sleep.

Bangkok is a throbbing metropolis that involves the visitor with its chequered history, fascinating culture and bewildering melding of old and new. Shopping and eating are reasons enough for most travelers to stay for a while; art, religion and the royal family exercise an equally strong appeal and draw you to this 'Land of Smiles'.

However, what infuses Bangkok really with personality are its people. The graciousness, charm, warmth, tolerance, gentle nature, sense of fun and hospitality of Thais are indelibly imprinted in the memory of most visitors. Ironically, you learn how to smile at the vicissitudes of life in a city of contradictions, in a city that is at once chaotic and serene.

Where to shop?
Jatujak or Chatuchak Weekend Market Located adjacent to Chatuchak Park, the weekend market, open on Saturday and Sunday, is a Bangkok landmark where you can buy just about everything from clothing to potted plants and everything in between - - a paradise for browsers and bargain-hunters alike. It is also where professional and amateur art-lovers and artists meet.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market This popular attraction is some 80 kilometres west of Bangkok, accessible by regular bus from the Southern Bus Terminal. Everyday, hundreds of vendor boats crowd the market area in the early morning till noon.
