Bonifacio, la Génoise

Visit France > Corsica > Bonifacio, la Genoise

Bonifacio. How much History is imbued in this great mass of chalk-white rock that stands, steadfast through the centuries, facing the coasts of nearby Sardinia ! Making one’s way through the narrow lanes of the citadel, one discovers the old Pisan and Genoan quarters of the town traces of the Knights Templar, the baroque churches in their multicoloured garbs of rare marble.

The marina, the natural harbour that sheltered Ulysses in days of yore. Numerous café terraces and restaurants enliven this part of the town that pulses to the non-stop departures of sightseeing boats carrying tourists to the discovery of marine grottos and the Lavezzi archipelago (world-reserve).
