Visit Lithuania

Nowadays Lithuania is a place where both past and present mix, creating an interesting tourist destination for visitors from all over the world.

A country, situated at the geographical centre of Europe, washed by the Baltic Sea, covered with dense forests and meandering rivers and lakes, respectful of its traditions, nurturing its UNESCO world heritage sites, and open to innovations.

Lithuania is divided is 4 regions:

AUKSTAITIJA (Vilnus) – the largest region covers the north, east and the middle of the country. The region contains pristine forests and beautiful lakes and has largely managed to retain its unspoiled charm.

DZUKIJA (Alytus) – the southern region of the country sits astride the Nemunas (River) and borders Poland and Belarus. The people here are characterised by their optimism and their love for songs, while also having successfully preserved many older traditions.

SUVALKIJA (Marijampole) is the smallest region. The countryside here is flat and covered with small farmsteads, circled by trees. The Suvalkijans are renowned for their efficiency, pragmatism, law abiding nature and occasionally a touch of miserliness.

ZEMAITIJA (Telsiai) – (historically called Samogitia). The people here are well known for being industrious and a large number of jokes also testify to their reputed stubbornness. The Zemaitians are said to be notoriously slow to accept change, but once accepted, they embrace it fully. The region is well known in Lithuania for its dairy produce and for its short but strong and energetic Zemaitukai horse.

Lithuania (also Lietuva) is the largest of the Baltic countries and borders with Latvia, Belarus, Poland and the Russian Federation. The country has beautiful nature - almost 30 % of its territory is covered by forests, also there are many rivers, streams and over 3000 lakes.

Lithuania is a true paradise for the nature lovers; there are five national and thirty regional parks offering tourist attractions such as boating, bird-watching sport fishing, horseback riding etc.
