  • Area: 237,500 square kilometers
  • It possesses a short coastline on the Black Sea.
  • One third of its territory is mountainous, especially in the north (Transylvania) where the Carpathians extend. The southeast is a flat plain bathed by the Danube.

Government: Parliamentary democracy; semi-presidential system made up of a president of the republic, a prime minister and a parliament consisting of a house of representatives and a senate.
