Geography
- Area: 44 hectares
- Situated within Rome, this is the world’s smallest state. It includes the apostolic palaces and the pontifical villas, including Castel Gandolfo.
General Information
Government: the Supreme Pontiff (the pope) is head of state with the powers of an absolute monarch.
Important date: the Lateran Treaties, signed February 11, 1929 between Pius XI and Mussolini recognized the sovereignty of the Vatican.

Economy: based on money brought in from the Catholic church worldwide. The Vatican is a state with no taxation, and publishes no statistics regarding its economic or financial activities.
