Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai
Sheikh Zayed Road - The eight-lane highway never sleeps. A single avenue of stunning high rises, glittering with chrome, glass and modernity rises up. Lined with malls, office and apartment blocks, the architecturally splendid skyscrapers speak of tremendous wealth. It is home to some of the biggest and brightest towers and here you will find some of Dubai’s favorite bars, fine restaurants and clubs - or you can eat from one of the many roadside eateries for snacks and shisha.

Dubai Marina
Think Manhattan on the sea, with impressive skyscrapers. The dozens of luxury yachts that are moored in the Marina add to the exclusive atmosphere. Marina Walk hosts a Friday Marina Market with stall holders selling arts and handicrafts in the cooler months.

Shopping

The exclusive Burjuman Centre is nearby for terrific shopping while the Satwa Street shops have many excellent tailors. The souk area of Bur Dubai with its glittering gold, perfumes and spices will stimulate the senses with its bright lights, noise and bustle, or you might head to Karama for its market shops full of bargain designer copies and Arabian Souvenirs. The Diwan (Ruler's office), the historic wind towers and museum are situated here, and nearby you can take an Abra (small wooden boats) across the Creek or a cruise in a wooden dhow and see Dubai from the water!

The Dubai Mall, opened in November 2008, promises to revolutionize shopping centers. With a commercial space of 800,000 square meters, it brings together 1,200 stores including Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdales. What will soon be the biggest shopping complex in the world will also include a section to entertain the youngest members of the family: the first Sega theme park and a 7000 square meter "KidZania" space. An Olympic-sized skating rink, 22 cinemas, 120 restaurants and cafés, not to mention a luxury 5-star hotel with 250 rooms and 450 apartments will also be part of the mix. 14,000 parking spots are planned in order to accommodate the 30 million visitors expected in the first year.
