Skiing in the desert!
From the timeless tranquility of the desert to the lively bustle of the souk, Dubai offers a kaleidoscope of attractions for visitors. In a single day, the tourist can experience everything from rugged mountains and awe-inspiring sand dunes to sandy beaches and lush green parks, from dusty villages to luxurious residential districts and from ancient houses with wind towers to ultra-modern shopping malls. Now a new activity has been added to create one of the most captivating contrasts: Skiing! Yes, skiing on snow!
When the temperature outdoors soars to 40° C or higher, thousands of ski enthusiasts can enjoy ice-cold delights in the covered Ski Dubai station, where every detail has been seen to in order to recreate the atmosphere of the world's great ski destinations. Pine trees, lifts, and snow, of course... "natural" ski slopes have nothing on Dubai. At the top of the runs, there are even restaurants where you can enjoy a mountain meal.

Ski Dubai in the Dubai Emirates Mall opened in December 2005. It is the world's third largest indoor ski slope, measuring 400 meters and using 6000 tons of snow. A second Dubai indoor ski slope, the Dubai Sunny Mountain Ski Dome in Dubailand, is due to open in 2008. It will provide a great attraction, featuring a revolving ski slope, an artificial mountain range, an ice bridge, a cable lift, a snow maze, an ice slide, polar bears cold water-aquaria and special sound and light effects.
